1. Exhibition 2004

"Willi Geiger in the Bax", Künstlerhaus Geiger - the Bax, Übersee am Chiemsee June-August 2004.

On the basis of paintings, watercolors and graphics, the first exhibition in the Künstlerhaus Geiger "Willi Geiger in the Bax" showed some essential aspects of the artistic work of this painter.

The area in the residence was dedicated to the artist's ties to the village environment. On display was a selection of portraits, still lifes and landscapes painted over the decades, mainly at Lake Chiemsee. Photographs, written documents and personal objects expanded the depiction of Willi Geiger's life in the Bax, his new home.

In the large hall, partially converted for the exhibition - the former threshing floor - the exhibits led the viewer into the magical world of the artist. Fantastic visions, masks and flower paintings showed another side of his work, the uncanny. This developmental tendency can be seen especially in the latter works. The initially harmonious bouquets of flowers gradually acquire a melancholy character in autumnal hues. Later they gain in intensity and luminosity in their colorfulness, while their shaping gradually departs from reality to the point of abstraction. As a child of his time, Willi Geiger reflected the dissolution and disintegration of a hitherto seemingly intact world.
